REVIEW: WAYAN RETREAT BALINESE SPA

I went for my 1st spa treatment at Wayan Retreat Spa. The deal i got from their FB page. It is called "Ratu Jongras" , 90 minutes treatment that consists;-
1) Balinese Massage
2) Body Scrub
3) Scalp-wax treatment AKA Creme bath
4) Yogurt wrap
5) FREE tummy-candling.
The promotion cost me $98. There were several spa chains that i considered such as "Spa by Norfasarie", "Citra Ayu" & "Aura Royalis". Since wayan is accessible and the price is reasonable, i signed-up for it eventhough I had an inkling feeling about this spa. I took 3 session of the spa when i don't even give it a try! I wondered how can they crammed the 5 treatment into 1hr & 30mins. When i went to Batam, it sets me 2hrs or 2.5hrs. Well i got my answer on Tuesday, It was really unfavourable. I did not enjoy the spa session at all.

My appointment was at 11.15am. I came in at 11am because i knew that i need to change and afterall it's my 1st visit therefore they need to do some formalities. The ambience of the spa is rustic with pebbles and wooden flooring. I love the invigorating ginger smell.. The treatment room is on the 2nd level. I already timed myself and i knew my treatment would end at 12.45pm.

Once changed, i realized it was already 11.30am. A malay auntie attended to me. When she was massaging me, she asked whether i visited a spa before and i told her that i did in Batam. I told her that there the massage is rough and deeper. She replied that it is called traditional or lymphatic massage, they pressed every pressure point unlike Balinese massage it is softer and relaxing, IMHO, i did not feel anything. It was like she just moved her hands up and down my body.

I told myself not to compare her techniques and let her continue to do her job and BUT i was wrong! She kept talking and talking to me! From her past working experience, to Politics and Malaysian Celebrities! THE WHOLE EFFING 90MINS TREATMENT.

It was a distraction!. I wanted to doze off but her droning voices kept waking me up. I wanted to tell her to shut-up but i'm such an accommodating customer and i respect the elderly. Since she did not get the hint from my lack of response, i gave in after a while. She do really like my accompany. Poor Auntie such a lonely soul. The icing on the cake was when i knew that she was rushing for time and i questioned her how can wayan packed 5 treatments into less than 2hrs. She told me that the balinese massage is 45mins, the scrub is 30mins and the rest is 15mins. Then i asked her, how about the yogurt wraps? She replied , "well wait and see, i will show you". Was she being sarcastic?

Yes, i am satisfied the scrub. How she rubbed it on my skin and back. Banish you dirt and grime! Now the yogurt wrap, after the scrubbed she will sprinkle some liquid and spread it on my body wrap me with plastic. Ahhh.. How about the scalp wax treatment? When i was in Batam, creme bath was saloon style. I sat on a chair and they put some solution on my head and massage it. They kneaded and knotted my hair. I felt light after the wash and my hair was fluffy. I had a different experience where practically she was yanking my hair from my scalp. She was scrubbing my back then she go the head and pulling my hair(literally) then once done scrubbing on the front, she return my head and pull more hair. I really wanted to cry but I dissolved it with , "Auntie, i'm going to lose my hair with all the pulling".

Don't let me started with the ear-candling (tummy-candles are OSS). I already raised the white flag. She wrapped me up and i was left with 5mins to rest in peace BUT i could still hear her pitter-patter of her feet outside the room. She got in to wake me up. SURPRISE it is 12.45pm! I did NOT get my 90mins. They did not utilise the 15mins because i started the treatment late. Supposedly massage should made you feel refreshed yet i felt worse than before. I showered and SURPRISE i saw my hair collating at the drain. Haish.

I took my time changing into my clothes and i realized that when i came in the morning all the room wasn't occupied. I was pissed because i requested for early timing preferably at 10.30am but was told no availability but there were no other customers except for myself. At the same time, there were no other masseuse. While dolling myself, a chinese lady being escorted upstairs and it seems that Auntie is her therapist. Bless you my girl. Maybe she won't talk so much because it will like duck & chicken.

When downstairs and two other gerls were there..also bumped into another Auntie. The consultant asked how was my treatment? I would love if the pressure could be harder. She told me whether i informed the therapist and i said NO because i don't want to offend her.
I wish that next visit, i got young and energetic therapist to massage me.

Overall experience: THUMBS DOWN. 1.5 Stars
